It’s that time of the year again … Finnkino has this all night event before they start selling tickets for next Hobbit movie. People have already been in line for days and tomorrow they will give numbers in which order people can buy their Hobbit tickets. As an old fart and wussie in general, I will join the line about 4 hours before they start giving numbers. At around 10-11pm they let people inside movietheater and there will be plenty of movies going for all night … and for special low price too. Me and wife will go see “Escape Plan”, “Gravity 3D” and “Ender’s Game”. Around 7-8am they start selling tickets for the second Hobbit movie itself. After that we will hop on train and go home to catch some sleep.

Last year me and Pipsa got married at 12/12/12 and also wen’t to see first Hobbit movie at that same day. This year we will celebrate our first anniversary with “Desolation of Smaug”. It’s nice that we get to follow this tradition one more year after this one.

In homecinema we saw the extended cut of first Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey. As stretched and bloated as it already was, I was sure that extra footage would only make it worse. Boy, was I wrong! Extra footage gave so much more depth to the story and was nothing but good for the whole movie … well, except perhaps the longer treatment of Goblin King. Some of the dialoque made the character a bit more tolerable but the longer song was just agony. The rhythm was somehow really off and didn’t feel like fantasy at all … it broke the immersion. Also there were two moments in the movie that, in my opinion, shouldn’t have been there. First the scene where Gandalf mentions the birth of Golf. It felt really out of place for me. And later on the extended edition the Goblin King talked like a antique dealer and mentioned stamp  “Made in Rivendell”. Like fingernails in chalkboard for me. But otherwise the extended version was tons and miles better than the original one … which wasn’t too bad in itself either. Totally recommend this longer experience.
